I happen to have an SCO Openserver 5.0 NFR Box. It appears to have a code on it.
The number is 7 48 135 00930 6. The leading 7 and the trailing 6 are printed in
smaller type.

AIUI - the UPC barcode format is fixed and free, the codes
generated do have
some specific implementations for tracking
purposes (using UPC-A codes -
specifically the GTIN-12 number
encoded in UPC-A) - see Universal
Product Code prefixes at wikipedia for the
specifics on the first
digit
classes.
The basic breakdown is:
1-23456-789AB-C
1 =
class
2-6 = manufacturer
7-B = specific product
C =
checksum
I don't see how Oracle could "own" the UPC code
other than having
the UPC registrar assigning Oracle the "block" (5-digit
product
number) that is grouped under the Oracle manufacturer block.
So, if
Oracle wants to sue based on the UPC barcode, they would
probably have to deal
with the UPC assigning authority for
wanting to charge end-users (stores, for
example) for storing
"their" mfg/product codes in a local
database.

To answer your specific question, a helpful site is UPC Search website to get
a quick
breakdown if you have a specific UPC barcode to check, and
it also has a link
for paging through the assigned mfgr numbers as
well. --- - Ken -

Unixware 7 has 7 48135 02857 4
this may not be UPC, for a start it is only 12 digits.
