If they do that then their viewing figures will drop like a stone.
Forcing viewers to watch advertising is nothing more than a sign of
desperation.
Channels that don't do this will get a big increase in viewers.
Streaming services such as netflix will also benefit as long as they don't
follow the banner ads model.

Personally, I don't watch any commercial (i.e. advertising sponsored) TV as it
is broadcast. Everything is recorded and watched when I want to. I skip over all
Ad breaks. There again, I'm not in the target demography for the advertisers as
I'm in the Grumpy old man category. Luckily we don't have adverts for medicines
where I live.

Some over the air broadcast stations are selling advertising slots in 10 and
15 second segments.

The cost of poducng a 10 second commercial is more than the cost of
producing a thirty second commercial.

The station earns roughly twice the revenue selling six 10 second slots, as it
does selling two 30 second slots.
