Actually SUN did have a business with earning money on tools to make Java more
easy to develop with. I don't recall all the details, but there were good free
profilers and similar. Problem was just that they were a pain to find since Sun
actively refused to mention these on their hopepage in favor of the pay
alternatives.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

You should read the Java license for the Oracle windows JVM
http://www.java.com/en/download/inc/windows_upgrade_xpi.jsp
The License says you need to pay for a separate license for certain commercial
use. Many companies that use Java to run their business applications do (or did
maybe) pay Sun/Oracle some form of license fee to use their solution. Now you
have other free options which means that there Sun/Oracle's Java license cash is
probably tanking. Time to cash in on Android!
