The jury has to begin in a state of technical ignorance.

It's more a matter of balance, so all opinions have similar weight. If there are
one or more recognized experts on the jury, the other members are likely to
defer to their opinion rather than form their own. So unless you can find a full
panel of experts, their verdict will not be truly unanimous, but will be mostly
disguised abstentions.

Sure, technical ignorance hurts one side.

But it helps the other.

So no matter what, the most technical people will be stricken.
