People's inability to read what this discussion is about is really appalling. I
quote:
"Software Patents: A European Union (EU) Directive on the
Patentability of Computer-Implemented Inventions must not Jeopardize
Interoperability."
This is not a communication to Google. It is
not directed at any business partner of Sun. Instead, it is directed at the
European Union, urging them to not put patent law into place because it would be
detrimental to business.
The laws have been put into place, in Europe like
previously in the U.S. Does Sun state that if the laws were put into place,
they would voluntarily dismiss all their rights under those laws, while being
subjected to the claims of others?
Sun claims nothing of the sort. Yet
everybody and his dog says that they should now be held to the standard of law
that they asked for but did not get.
They asked for a level playing field,
and everybody now states that this should constitute sufficient reason to tilt
the playing field against them.
Again: please read what this article is
actually about before you claim anybody except yourself is missing the key
point. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
