For all of the bashing that Christianity gets, the monks of Ireland were the
protector of 'civilisation' of Europe, during the Dark Ages.

Articles seem to point to "wet", meaning other climate changes, prior?
If I read it correctly.

"Unusually extreme and frequent shifts in weather patterns between 250 and
550".

However, article also said this:

"Overall, analyses showed that the degree of climate change occurring now
is unprecedented in the last 2,500 years,"
