I would argue that Android is a sales tool for delivering advertising content.
It would be like NBC giving away televisions.
Or the magic decoder ring in a Cracker Jack box.
If someone had a patent on magic decoder rings...

Might OpenJDK be Sun giving away the patented inventions for free?
So, how can Oracle compete with Sun giving it away for free?
I mean, Sun didn't give just a couple of patents away, they gave away the whole
platform including the JDK, the JVM, the Java language and the Java APIs. Even
the proprietary development stuff was given away for free as in beer.
At least Google only gives away a little bit of Java based stuff. Most of it
isn't Java.
Perhaps Oracle mean that they can't compete with both free and better.
