If you cornered someone like Andrew McFadden in a hallway on his lunch break
(and not during this court case... say a year ago) and asked him "does the
iget instruction contain a symbolic reference?" his answer would be
something like "of course not, that's absurd".

The '104 patent was badly drafted. While trying to express a technical idea in
legalese, the lawyers seem to have mangled it, and it ends up containing phrases
like "instruction containing a symbolic reference" which make it
inapplicable to all real-world VMs.
