PTO Director Compares 'Smartphone Wars' to Patent Battles of Old
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, May 17 2012 @ 01:32 PM EDT
Correct. Google and Oracle are not really competing in this area. Not
only that, the patents in this suit are bogus and should never have been
applied for, let alone issued. So why would Oracle sue Google? The
answer is greed. Oracle wants a chunk of the pie without having to
compete for it. The dollar signs in oracles eyes when they purchased
sun were because they had every intention of making this bogus lawsuit
a cash cow for them (albeit it appears they'll be getting the other
business end of the cow on this one, thankfully).
I don't think there is a problem with the idea of patents(maybe even
software, providing it is very limited). The problem is that, just like
everything else in our legal system, it can be abused by people/entities
that have no regard for anyone else (oracle is a perfect example).
