Do they?

For stuff like police control, my gut is that, excepting a
few hyperkinetic security guards and some military
businesses, most corporations steer far clear of the
government. I'd worry more about straight up federal policy
in the US. We've already authorized straight-up
assassination of American citizens and their children, so
I'm not sure how much worse we can get. I suppose drone
attacks on American soil would qualify?

On the other hand, in terms of shaping policy in ways that
benefit them, the corporations are getting incredible
returns on investment. (Credit card company->change
bankruptcy laws...) (Financial companies->don't prosecute
gigantic frauds) (Food processors->don't change policy
regarding carbohydrates (by the way, probably responsible
for obesity in Americans...so expensive)) They are getting
billions of dollars in payout in exchange for millions of
dollars of lobbying.

There is one law in place. Karma. Look at
Sony's business now. You can mess with
customers for quite a while, but eventually
they realize it and go away.
