Plus, as a female, there could be issues
of personal safety that she feels, and if
she isn't used to BART, she may feel nervous
about it, plus what to do about the car? Who
knows what the environment is like where the
car broke down?

When I was younger and employed as an automobile mechanic, My wife was issued a
standing order that if she had car trouble she was to have it towed home even if
she was a hundred miles from home because it was only a 90 dollar tow bill. Once
home the car repair was minor. My transmission overhaul cost; 73 dollars. A
complete engine rebuild with new pistons, camshaft, timing chain, valve grind,
etc.; 1300 dollars plus a couple of weekends shot. At that time a big city
alternator repair would have been 100 dollars+.
