This is truly one of those episodes here on Groklaw where it's frustrating to
read it in print online, rather than being able to watch the video of the
actual event, because I would have loved to have gotten to "know"
this judge - i.e., his mannerisms, cadence of speech, etc. - and then watch
him drop this bomb today.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

If a movie is ever made about this trial I hope it's a comedy and it includes
this dialog[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

What I found most interesting is that the judge said that he has written in
multiple languages, and although he knew nothing about the specific Java
language prior to this case, he could write rangecheck now in a few minutes.
Jacobs responded by saying that as a lawyer, he has tried two Java cases and
couldn't do it - ignoring completely the fact that the judge coded in OTHER
languages in the past. Of course Jacobs couldn't do it - he doesn't program at
all!
It would be no different than a lawyer stating that he couldn't design an engine
mount even though he tried multiple cases on engine failures, when a judge, with
a background in mechanical engineering could easily do it after hearing a case.
