dalvik-cache, static vs runtime
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, May 14 2012 @ 06:15 PM EDT

Thanks for this explanation. I have a question.

If a .class file in the Dolphin_Browser_Mini_v2.2.apk file had a (symbolic) reference to a class that is not present in Dolphin's .apk file, when would it be resolved?

I know very little about Dalvik, but how about if one of the Dolphin .class files had a call to System.out.println? I can only assume that the System.class file is not in the Dolphin .apk file. And so the reference to System.out in the .apk is still something that has to be looked up. When is the offset of the "out" field in System's static data determined (during the conversion to ..classes.dex or when the Dolphin browser runs)? Then when does the address of System.out.println get put into the instruction stream to allow the call to take place?
