Balderdash - almost
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, May 14 2012 @ 01:00 PM EDT
Put a bunch of programmers in a room and tell them the
problem definition behind rangecheck and they'll write
individual implementations of the same algorithm, but most
likely with different variable names, indentation, etc.
Give them an API to satisfy, and it will nail down the NAME
of the range check function, but nothing else.
RangeCheck was 5 minutes work to produce, out of a millenia
of effort for the rest of the system, but it was somebody
else's five minutes work.

I resonate with this issue, but I think you might find your concern implied,
between the lines of the damages discussion, at the end of the article. I
expect it will be the focus of the discussion in phase 3.

IANAL, but I watch actors play lawyers on high-definition television.
Thanks to our hosts and the legal experts that make Groklaw great.

Hot or Cold
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, May 14 2012 @ 05:04 PM EDT
The climate on Groklaw seems to be either Hot or Cold, few in between.
Yesterday (or the day before) Oracle was down and the world looked golden, today
we're not so sure and the darkness overwhelms the light. Hopefully in the end
there will be a nice summer's day, okay maybe a bug or two but I expect the
judge to be fair and have common sense about the outcome. :)
