I believe it was the lawyers that started this mess,
with Larry being talked into it later as being a good idea.
Remember, when Oracle and SUN got together,
there was a sparkle in the lawyers eyes.
But, it appears the Gosling is not sure where he
stands anymore.

I presume that Oracle pray to God that there are no programmers in
the jury
because anyone with any technical knowledge would realize that they
have no case
at all.
From here on this side of the pond, it looks
extremely like jury selection ensures that no programmers or people with
technical knowledge are on the jury: the jury is not a completely random
choosing of people off the street - it is selected to be a biased jury having
nobody with any technical knowledge.
When I did jury service this side
of the pond, there was none of this what do you think of the crime of
{whatever_it_was}, do you think those who commit it should be {whatever}, etc;
it was a total random selection of people from the pool of those called up for
service. (Only those with connections with either party could be excused,

On the other hand one of the things that has deterred me from getting into Java
is the Sun-defined fragmentation into EE, SE, ME, etc. Which one should I try to
learn? And what if there are EE features that would be useful in a client
application?
Java the language still has a lot of promise as a "proper" programming
language... maybe now that there is a clear pattern in Oracle's behaviour, it is
time to make a break and use Harmony/Dalvik as *the* reference platform.
That said, I don't know enough about the Java world to have any conviction that
