They were replaced by calling the Android/Harmony version in
class java.util.Array. Dr. Bloch had written the ported-to-
Java version with contribution back to OpenJDK in mind, and
in that context it made sense to use a standalone version of
rangeCheck() for acceptance testing, knowing it would work
just the same once replaced by the version he'd written some
time before for java.util.
While there was no problem with including the rangeCheck()
code in OpenJDK, it was GPL'd code and thus improperly
included in Apache licensed Android. So this weighs heavily
against any actual damages claim, I would think, and that's
what all the expert reports reflect on the narrow issue of
rangeCheck() infringement.
