spoonfeeding
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, May 07 2012 @ 12:10 PM EDT
"Spoon feeding" is the process used to feed infants who
can't feed themselves: you hold the spoon for them and use
it to bring small amounts of food (usually a puree, that is,
something that has in effect already been chewed for them)
to their mouths. You control what they eat, how much they
eat, and how fast they eat it. They don't have to hold the
spoon themselves, they don't have to chew, you watch to make
sure they swallow, you keep feeding them until *you* are
satisfied with their progress; you help them to burp, and
then you wipe their chins for them.

The judge is probably referring to the practice of
selecting what evidence an expert is going to see in order
to produce an "expert" report. If you control what the
expert sees, you pretty much control the expert's report.
Or as engineers would say, "garbage in, garbage out."

I believe the term is "Leading the witness", or asking leading
questions. For example:

Q: "Did you brush your teeth first this morning and then put on your
clothes?"
.
.
.
A: "Yes."

instead of

Q: "What did you do this morning?"
.
.
.
A: "Brush my teeth."
.
.
.
Q: "What did you do next?"
.
.
.
A: "Put on my clothes."
