Nokia takes steps to troll
Authored by: Anonymous on Saturday, May 05 2012 @ 10:26 PM EDT
We hates it... but we must protect the IPrecsssious...

The refrain is coming weekly now. You take one down and pass it around, there's
98 bottles of beer on the wall...

So, should we start a pool? Will the first suit be against Android or against
IOS?

Hog Wash

It's different. It's more colorful. But ugly is in the mind of the beholder.

This is an example of attempted spin, and a poor one at that.
Otherwise it does provide some interesting details.

Paul Graham on how we need to evolve with the times and take a better look at outdated definitions Specially relevant to this case - where Oracle is claiming an "idea" as its property - to what could be disastrous consequences.

Nokia defends strategy to exasperated investors

"It's hard to break through. It's been harder than we expected," Chief Executive Stephen Elop told shareholders.
So now he is excusing his own incompetence by indirectly blaming the problem that was made worst by his own hands? What in the world were they supposedly expecting? Brainwash everyone into buying their product even before it is ready on the market? Magic patent dust that will erase their competitors from existence?

Judge Alsup: how to drive from San Francisco to Monterey
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, May 06 2012 @ 01:57 PM EDT
Interesting commentary from Judge Alsup reported on Ars Technica Did this quote make it to Groklaw:
"If someone were to give you an assignment and say, 'Go write a guide book on how to drive from San Francisco to Monterey,' and everybody could sit down and write their own two-page thing on that, there would be some similarities. But the idea is not protected," Alsup said in court last Friday.
