Been there, done that too (even got the T-shirt). The bugs up there can be worse
than those from Microsoft! ;-)

I spent a week in the King George Hotel, in Armstrong, Ontario, where they
didn't have screens on the window!!! There was also a woman who drove around in
a pick up truck doing odd jobs. She had screens over her side windows on the
truck. Driving the "highway" up from Thunder Bay was a real
experience. It's about 150 miles and only the first 30 or so were paved. The
road is so dusty that you have to keep the windows closed, even in the hot
summer weather, just to keep the dust out. You might also break your exhaust
system with the "gravel" hitting it. My first trip on that road took
about 6 hours. After I'd done it a few times, I got down to about 2.5 hours.
Traveling at that speed kept the stones from hitting your exhaust system, as
they'd fly out the back.

For a while I alternated my time between Panama and New Brunswick.
The mosquitos were far worse in Canada.

I think us long-time residents of N. Ontario have DEET in our blood system,
flies don't bother with us. That or we just don't care anymore about the bites.
DEET is the active ingredient of most repellant and until a few years ago could
be bought in 95% strength (now only allowed to be 23%). Strong enough to take
the paint off pencils, but dang, did it work.
