I will offer that some people's interpretation of the word
"package" may be tainted by the behaviour of "packages"
in environments other than Java. e.g. a package in MacOS
contains a list of what is inside it. Tinker with the contents
and you must also amend the list of contents and checksums
and code signatures. External executable code may expect
certain behaviour from the package depending on what it
reads from the list of contents.
Not wanting to detract from your excellent descriptions,
just offering an excuse for some people's confusion.
There is no excuse for BSF fomenting that confusion.
