I go
consult with a lawyer about something, I can't talk about it
after?
Crazy! It is I who contracted that lawyer, and I who
can do what I want - even
decide to ignore his advice, fire
him, whatever. I don't know here you ever got
such a notion.

IANAL but isn't the basis of privilege to protect a lawyer from charges based on
aiding and abetting a crime (by not reporting what they hear from clients) thus
allowing them to indeed defend their client?
If so, privilege is illogical when applied to the client as they have already
been charges for their misdeeds and are in any case protected by the 5th
amendment in the US (hence it's OK to be asked and OK to not answer).
