In memoriam: Microsoft’s previous strategic mobile partners
Authored by: greed on Saturday, May 05 2012 @ 11:37 PM EDT
The only one I can think of is IBM.

Though, that's only because IBM as a "greater entity" survived. The
IBM Laboratory that housed PC Company and OS/2 was shut down in... oh, late
1996, early 1997?

The remains of PC Company--Operating Systems now gone--was sold to Lenovo in the
Noughties.

So the parts of IBM that collaborated with Microsoft are gone.

Hmmmm. Apple, too; there was that "buy some non-voting Apple stock or face
the wrath of anti-trust" in... hey, the same time-frame OS/2 got shut
down.

Does that count as a partnership? It was more of a bailout.

In memoriam: Microsoft’s previous strategic mobile partners

Oracle (not their first partnership; just a handy one); to understand why Oracle survived, you have to understand that as a company they view all business; In fact, all human relations as a form of warfare. Consider for example that Ellison's wife was persuaded to give up all claim on Oracle for $500 when she divorced him.

When Microsoft betrayed them, the only emotion Oracle felt as they sacrificed a few hundred thousand OEMs in a rear guard action, was a gentle, "ooh, that was clever, just before we managed to get the knife in; I wonder if we can do that too", kind of envy. Surprise at being betrayed certainly never entered into it. Fear no greater than the soldier ant sacrificing its self for the Queen it has never even understood or met.

But they had control, MS needed the technology for their RDP. :)
