Unless you've replaced the kernel, Android also contains a remote kill switch.

B&N is risking going under, without the help of the Nook, or Microsoft.
Were B&N to go under, that would simply accelerate the decline of pBooks,
and the ascendency of eBooks. However, independent book stores are making a
slight comeback. Not enough to replace the bookstores that have closed in the
past decade --- both independents and chains.
I think that this will be repeated in other retail stores. Internet based
companies kill off the brick and mortars stores, and independents picking up the
business from people that internet companies can't service.
