Over the lifetime of a device, I'm sure the platforms work on the basis of
selling a substantial amount of content.
Eg. Kindle owners will likely
buy kindle content which is locked to a kindle
platform purely because it's
*much* easier to do so on a whim without faffing
around coverting books and
uploading them etc. The same is probably true
on other plattforms to an extent
but I have no first hand knowledge.
