The Porche 911 was so named because Peugot at the time
wouldn't let them call it a name with a 0 'o' in the middle.
Or so folklore here says anyway!
Thus controlling the centre digit of a car name if the other
two were not 0.
Rover used 00, 200,400,600
Mazda used a 2 in the centre with the same number either
side, 121,323,626
Saab used 90,900,9000
A lot of car manufacturers use/d a unique numbering system.
Renault used to number their cars except in a way the French
could master. They were confusing! the R4 and R5 were
available at the same time, the R5 lasted years longer, yet
the R20 was years before the R19, yet after the R12,R14 and
R15. It is relatively recent that Renault have started
using names such as Megane and Clio

If SSO is taken to its logic conclusion, it seems to imply that for example sorting a given list alphabetically is copyrigtable matter. . .Identifying houses on a street by listing them in numerical order becomes copyrightable. . .BMW may copyright the use of a 3-digit numerical identifier for their classes of cars?

No. I don't think that anything we've seen in the case or any other case supports your proposition that copyrightability can be extended to simple lists or short identifiers. Your post suggests SSO copyright taken well beyond its logical conclusion.

This has me thinking about how Intel tried and failed to block AMD from using
the 486 designation. I can't remember the details now, but could it have had to
have done with AMD, Cyrix, and others publicly using 286 and 386 for their
processors? The way I remember it, though, the issue did boil down to Intel
using a 3 digit number for their processors.
