What would they put on the CD?

If one is registering the contents of a single document, then I suppose you
might send the document as proof of what was being registered.

The Java SE registration form included the note that the registration included
third party owned documents.

One has to question what such a registration actually protects. Was the CD just
supposed to list the titles, but not the contents, of a compilation? Is that how
an anthology copyright is registered? Would that list of items also be required
for a collection copyright registration? I don't remember either Novell or SCO
having to send in a list of all the Unix files in Unix. In fact, when they
registered, Novell had transferred all the files to Santa Cruz under the
contract.

What was on the CD and what legal copyright significance does it have?
