They'd heard the judge yesterday tell Google they'd probably lose on the manuals
Authored by: jbb on Friday, April 27 2012 @ 01:19 PM EDT
Who will probably lose on the manuals? The way I read the sentence you are saying Google will probably lose on the manuals (pronouns always connecting with the first valid match going backward in the sentence). I realize this rule is not always followed so strictly.

There was a lot of confusion about this yesterday so I think it would be good to be extra clear on this point. After I read Google's rule-50 motion, I think the judge was saying Oracle was going to lose on the manuals. I gave my reasons here which is mostly a quote from Google's motion. Before I had read that, I thought the judge was implying Google was going to lose on the manuals.

Owen Astrachan -> Mark Reinhold
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, April 27 2012 @ 03:15 PM EDT
In the section "Rebuttal testimony of Dr. Mark Reinhold" it is still
using Owen Astrachan as the witness instead of Mark Reinhold

Rebuttal testimony of Dr. Mark Reinhold section Astrachan -> Reinhold
Authored by: bugstomper on Friday, April 27 2012 @ 03:15 PM EDT
Every statement by Reinhold in the first section of his testimony is labeled
Astrachan instead of Reinhold.

In the "Rebuttal testimony of Dr. Mark Reinhold" part of
the report, "Owen Astrachan" should read "Dr. Reinhold".

[Oracle calls Dr. Reinhold.] Doctor Who?
Authored by: Tkilgore on Friday, April 27 2012 @ 03:18 PM EDT
[Oracle calls Dr. Reinhold.]

Rebuttal testimony of Dr. Mark Reinhold

Oracle: How long did it take to design the java.nio JSR API.

Owen Astrachan: About 2 years.

Oracle: How long would it take to design a max API?

Owen Astrachan: About 30 seconds.

(continues to refer to Astrachan)

---------------------------------------------

So, the question. In this section, is it supposed to be Reinhold throughout and
not Astrachan? I am confused.

Cross of Astrachan, line 3
Authored by: red floyd on Friday, April 27 2012 @ 04:52 PM EDT
There should be a line break between the question mark and Owen Astrachan:

... and source code? Owen Astrachan: Yes.
Should be:
... and source code?

Owen Astrachan: Yes.

Cross of Katz - Missing newline, one place Mitchell -> Katz
Authored by: bugstomper on Friday, April 27 2012 @ 05:55 PM EDT
Missing newline in first line of this excerpt, and see the Dro. John Mitchell
that should be Safra Katz.

-------

Google: And this is after Oracle thought about but did not pursue a Java phone?
Safra Katz: Yeah, hard to compete with free.

Google: And then you went to Google and started to demand licensing?

Safra Katz: Correct.

Google: Exhibit 1074 - that was the response from Google?

Dr. John Mitchell: Yes, that's what he wrote in the email.

Google: Your compensation is 10's of millions of dollars?

Safra Katz: I'm the American dream.

Code capitalization fixes
Authored by: jjon on Saturday, April 28 2012 @ 11:04 AM EDT
To be valid Java, you need to make these changes:
  • Main -> main
  • string-> String
  • inputstream-> InputStream
  • OpenStream-> openStream
  • system-> System
Which gives:
// @author: aulut [or whatever his username is]
public class WebReader {
  public static void main(String [] arg) {
    java.net.URL site = new java.net.URL("http://cnn.com/");
    java.io.InputStream source = site.openStream();
    System.out.print(source.read());
  }
}

"Well, OK. But he's paid by Oracle."

Who is 'he' in this context? The only person mentioned in the vicinity of this
comment is the 'court'. I'm sure that PJ didn't mean to imply that the court is
on the payroll of Oracle but due to ambiguity, that's the way it reads.
