I think this is the most intelligent post in the history of groklaw.

It is exactly correct in its summary.

What sun wanted to do was GPL java with the above restrictions. Not really
the full spirit of GPL, but it was what sun was trying to achieve.

Google on the other hand didn't care what sun wanted and was desperate
to get android out, with millions of java developers to be able to support it
quickly, so they just used java against sun's wishes and thought they were
too big for sun to do anything about it.
