How many are anticipated by C++
Authored by: mcinsand on Sunday, April 22 2012 @ 07:27 AM EDT
Given that so much of Java's structure and organization is derived from C++, how
unique are these 37 API's? Copyright is supposed to protect original works. If
those API's derive too strongly from C++, then that would further dilute the
copyrightability of the Java API's...if such a thing like API copyrights were
allowable.

Why Are Only 37API's Copyrightable?
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, April 22 2012 @ 03:32 PM EDT
> Why aren't all the Java API's deemed copyrightable by Oracle.?

Because even they recognise that you can't use the Java language
without a minimal set of APIs. There are some more complex,
beautifully creative APIs which you don't need for "Hello World"
heavily stamped (C) Sun/Oracle. Now just supposing you believe
that for a moment, there also exists an in between area that
might be - might be not copyright. This is the area the judge is
desperately trying to avoid.

Why 37? Because that's the number found in Google's possession.
There may well be more in the possession of other "thieves".
