In that case, feel free to remove my nitpick :-) Hard to see what I did get so
worked up about otherwise. Should have waited for the story to settle down.

APIs are not source code?

APIs are hard to explain to a non-programmer (I'd say the concept is hard to explain to relatively novice and even intermediate programmers too). It's too abstract. It feels really a bit like having to explain "speeding ticket" to someone who lives in a recently discovered tribe in Amazon :) But search for my attempt below under the subject "Trying to explain APIs (and the Wikipedia API page)".
