Lawyers and judges are expected to know the rules of evidence, and are therefore
free to do any sort of research they want, including reading Groklaw. In fact,
one (among many) of the reasons for PJ's strict comment policies is to (try to)
ensure that the level of discourse around here won't offend any judges that may
happen to wander by.

Completely a different type of case, but in the Duke Lacrosse
case a couple of years ago, the lawyers for the defendants did
state that they read one person's blog every day due to the
