Integer literals are defined. Arrays of char are defined, but they aren't
strings (see J2S
E language spec 10.9. Strings... even string literals are defined as objects
of class java.lang.String (see J2
SE language spec 3.10.5). So you can do integers and single characters, but
if you want to do strings you need to use a Java
API.
Frankly, I'm beginning to see Oracle here as the salesman from
the gas-pump manufacturer just after the point in the conference call (involving
the CEO and chief counsel of both my employer and the manufacturer) where he's
said that they already have the firmware in development and it'll be ready soon,
I (per script) pipe up with "That's odd, I've a letter here from your head
firmware developer saying that you aren't developing any new firmware for that
hardware line and aren't planning on it. Do you have a contact name and number
so I can get in touch with them, make sure we're clear on all the technical
details we'll need?". ... ... ... <crickets chirping> Oops. Our chief
counsel was... unamused. At least as far as they knew, anyway. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
