Some Java APIs are better written than others

I dunno. Some of the APIs are fairly well written,
but some are not. The early AWT graphics was a
terrible kludge that could only draw ugly pictures.
However, Java2D, the redesign where Sun had help
from Adobe and borrowed most of the paradigms
from PostScript, is a very good 2D graphics API.
Of course, all the old AWT cruft is still in
there for backwards compatibility.

AWT was Sun's original idea, but it was bad.
Java2D borrowed heavily from Adobe's old and
proven design, with their consent and active
assistance, and fared much better.
Just how original are the rest of the Java
APIs, really, and are there any reasonably
original Sun/Oracle designs that are any
good?
