Picture Camera Metaphor Is Recent
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, April 17 2012 @ 09:50 PM EDT
The first step is deciding on what to take a photo of,
the next step is framing the photo,
then adjusting for light, etc.

Oh, plz don't give them ideas...

In the digital age, the analog(ue) of developing is the in-camera processing of
the raw readout from the CCD, by the camera firmware. I don't want to find a
clause in some shrinkwrapped EULA somewhere soon that asserts copyright over the
images in my camera, just because the
{Nikon|Canon|Panasonic|Sony|Olympus|WhoEver} software has had a 'creative input'
to my pictures.

I realize that ....

jcjodoin points out that taking photos was not always as
easy as it can be today. I know that. I used to develop
and print my own photos ... back in the day.

But in today's world, can you think of any other sort of
copyrightable expression that is easier for anyone to create,
than taking a photo?

If you can, then that might make an even better example of
effort having no bearing on copyright-ability.

I suppose an audio recording might similarly qualify,
but you generally cannot just look at the media so used,
and realize what that is. I think almost everyone
can identify with taking photos. (Blind people excepted)
