Larry Ellison wasn't really known for being stupid previously, was he? So what
changed? Are the dollar signs so blinding? I mean, this case makes me wonder
about all sorts of things related to Oracle.

I should think that Oracle's victory over SAP for US$1,300,000,000 dollars, for
which BSF deserved the most credit, was a strong motivating factor.
(That amount has been ranked easily among the largest 100 jury verdicts ever,

ego. and a hatred for the thought that anybody else but him should be allowed
to prosper, especially without paying him for the privilege.
That and he realized that he messed up big time in the Sun purchase and now he's
trying to make a silk purse from the sows ear.
