Well.... I suppose that depends on perspective

Afraid I can't comment on this... only started with Mandrake 8.1. 1.1GHz Athlon
with 512MB RAM.

I don't mind change

The point wasn't to compare hardware requirements between KDE 2.x and 4.x - I really have no idea what those requirements are. That's simply the computer I purchased a decade ago... at a cost of $1,400 per CPU.

With KDE, response was instant. Click on email software, immediately you have a working window. Click on browser software, immeidately you have a working window. Both 2.x and 4.x are responding that way for me. Sure... 4.x could be resopnding slower then 2.x... just not from the perspective of end-user. Click - shift hand, type. No waiting time.

That's why I notice the time loss even with Win7 on this hardware. I'll grant it is faster (at the moment) then XP was. But it's still slow compared with what I'm used to.... what I still have at home.
