The way I saw it as it unfolded, dragging it out for FUD value held for a couple
of years. Once the suite of lawsuits became more documentably baseless, though,
Didio, Enderle, Lyons, and even Ms. O'Gara stopped cheerleading SCOX. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Microsoft's Machiavellian engineering of the SCO tragi-comedy was a remarkable
success in pursuit of its ends.
Although few corporate lawyers NOW would advise against GNU/Linux for fear of
litigation, I'd guess that it put the platform back by about 5 years, giving MS
the time that it needed to Win7 out the door and into businesses.
It cost MS very little (Darl and others cupidity did the rest) and despite the
eventual outcome [good for GNU/Linux] I'd say regretfully that it was a win for
MS.

The may have been trying to discredit Android as well, but the longer the delay
the more their patents were destroyed - their patent FUD was extremely
undermined.
Once their Patents were being destroyed, they were less happy to delay - didn't
Google "suggest" delaying until the USPTO had finished its
[re]examination of the "Patents" but Oracle (BSF?) didn't want to
delay any more: the longer the delay, the greater the chance that the the
baselessness of the Patents and the patent case became, and thus the greater
chance that the FUD was exposed for what it really was; the bully who's bluff
has been called loses their bullying ability.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
