Star Trek predicted the iPhone
Authored by: stegu on Sunday, April 15 2012 @ 04:45 PM EDT
Pfft. He took until 1991 to see that coming?
There's nothing new or difficult in predicting a
Star Trek style personal communicator with both
text and voice interfaces as well as recording
and networking functions. It has been done numerous
times in SF literature. Restating old fictional themes
as "business predictions" does not make them any more
real. Not until someone actually builds the device.
Myhrvold did not.

I seem to remember this was being considered when I was working on mobile phone
chips pre 1990.
