A reader in Finland sent me this news: there is a new movie free for the download and under Creative Commons license, a parody of Star Trek, "Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning". You can view a trailer if your computer is up to it, or here's the trailer for all computer systems, at a lower quality level. Here's the description: "An epic film about the emperor of the world in the far reaches of the galaxy."
The first Finnish full-length scifi parody is made from astounding special effects, action and loads of dark humour. It is the product of a core group of five Finns and many people who've helped us during the seven years it has been in the making. You can download the entire movie by clicking here. For free, of course. It's in Finnish, naturally, but they have English subtitles, and to me they added to the enjoyment when I watched the trailer. I haven't had time to view the full movie itself, so don't blame me for anything you don't like in it. If you do like it, you can buy the DVD and they take Paypal, but they don't sell to the United States. Here's the forum, in English and Finnish. And some reader reviews. And here's the list of sponsors. You can read more about the film, including the story line, here. It begins: Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning begins with Captain James B. Pirk of the starship Kickstart shipwrecked on the 21st century Earth with his crew. Isn't that how you feel sometimes? Shipwrecked on 21st century Earth? I can't recommend something I haven't yet seen, but the reader reviews look good (the *least* positive one said it was OK and he'd already viewed it twice), and the main thing is, I wanted to let you know that a movie under the Creative Commons license has been released by some dedicated creative guys from Finland, some of whom have been working on this film since 1992. And anyway, it's Saturday, a perfect day for a movie.
