We've got something new at Groklaw. When you arrive at the homepage now, you'll see a new widget in the upper right corner, with a drop-down choice of themes, and it's available to everyone now, members and non-members. The default is Woodlands2, but now you can choose something else if you want to, even if you are not logged in. Just choose from the drop-down list and then click the GO button. You have to have cookies enabled, or the software doesn't know what to do for you. If you don't want to use cookies, just don't and use the default theme forever. It's your choice.

The purpose is two-fold: first, to make it possible for folks on mobiles to arrive and get to the two themes that are best suited for mobiles, the themes titled Mobile and Grokporate. Both should be better suited for small screens and I'm hoping for anyone using screen readers. Feedback welcome.

And second, we have a new one now for tired eyes, especially mine, called Woodnight, with a black background and cream text. We're still working on Grokporate and Woodnight, and Woodnight in particular still has really rough edges, but we wanted to go live so we can incorporate feedback.

This proves PJ cannot be a committee from IBM legal. She's a
twenty-something flibbertygibbet who just changes stuff
because she can. I'll out a secret for you, Woodnight was
made on a Mac, Cmd-Opt-Ctrl-8 turns Woodlands2 to
its negative. At least for now the default is the comfy old
Woodlands2. </rant>

I do like the Mobile idea, obviously still a work in progress,
there seem to be two parallel but not equal style sheets,
and some quirks with how far float right floats ...

Help! I'm lost!
Authored by: AMackenzie on Sunday, June 09 2013 @ 06:23 AM EDT
I just thought I'd try out "Mobile" from my trusty Gentoo desktop
running Firefox 17.0.6. It looks great.
Trouble is, how do I get back to "Woodlands2"? I can't find the
drop-down list anywhere on my copy of "Mobile". Maybe it's just too
early in the morning. I even tried deleting the "theme" cookie. That
didn't help either.

Help would be welcome. TIA.

I was a bit confused at first, I didn't see the widget. I checked,
and apparently Red Dress Essayage didn't have the widget. I
changed my theme to "Groklaw", and it showed up.

Strangely, though, Red Dress Essayage no longer appears as
one of the selections in the list of themes.

Other than that, it seems to work as advertised.

I just changed the theme using my tablet, but it also changed on my desktop. Is
it not possible to have different themes for desktop and mobile, as some other
sites do?

Interesting, I will play with it and see which I like

Tried them all, in order, then left the main page on Woodland 2. I came to this
reply from the story about it that I had left open in a second tab while I
played. This reply came up in Grokporate!

If playing with the web site, is there any chance that changing the way comments
are displayed eg from threaded to nested sends the reader straight to the start
of the comments. By changing the display of the comments the user is interested
in the comments as opposed to the story.

Just opened the story again, from the Woodland 2 main page, and it came up in
Grokporate as well !!!

Xcellent Xperiences on Xperia X8, 320x480
Authored by: IMANAL_TOO on Monday, June 10 2013 @ 02:45 PM EDT
The Grokporate works fine on Xperia X8, 320x480

However, the widget on "mobile", should it really be at the
bottom? It took me a while to find it.

Otherwise, Grokporate will be my new default for a while to
see if I prefer it in the long run! Looks really nice,
however, both on the smartphone and on the desktop.
