Weekend Off
Friday, March 25 2011 @ 04:35 PM EDT

I just wanted to let you know that I'm taking the weekend off. I am
making mistakes and can't figure out how to fix them.

: )

So, I've put the most recent article on ice until I can figure it out,
and I need to rest a little first so I can think straight. I'm plum
tuckered out.

Good. Don't think. Veg out with good movies or books or whatever your favorite
distraction is. Maybe even a back rub.

Do what I do....

Stay up till 4am Fri doing anything you can consider play and not even close to that nasty "work" word. Call up a friend and play a scrabble marathon for example.... for drinks :)

Then sleep only getting up long enough to eat, answer nature, and head back to sleep till Sun evening.

Have a good rest!

'Bout time you got some sleep
Authored by: tyche on Friday, March 25 2011 @ 05:33 PM EDT
SHEESH! Falling asleep while checking dates should have been your first clue
that you needed it.

By all means, get some sleep . . . relax and notice that Spring is coming
(notice: some localities may differ in their approach to spring). :-D

When the stress gets too bad, I get my puppies, and go cuddle them on the bed.
Works great. Most of the time. Today, well, let's just say that they are
scheduled for a bath tomorrow morning :)

Take the whole next week off, please, Pamela. I'd hope that by now you have an
efficient, tight cadre of loyal Groklaw myrmidons watching over the comments,
winnowing News Picks.

Do take a break, please. Then come back as bright eyed and bushy tailed as ever,
and we'll kick it all up some more.

    Regarding Hotz
Authored by: Anonymous on Saturday, March 26 2011 @ 06:21 AM EDT
Despite PJ's hiatus, I'd like to make a comment on the Hotz case. If I were one
of Hotz' attorneys, I would find myself compelled to write something like:

    "Dear Judge,

Although the TRO and impoundment order demand that my client cease further
work on his PS3 activities, asking for his computer to be searched and
'circumvention devices' to be removed is an impossible task.

The issue is confused by the language of the DMCA whereby a computer program
can be considered a 'device.' In this particular case, there are no
hardware-based or physical devices that can be removed from my client's
    possession.

In this case, the 'circumvention devices' are computer programs designed,
written, and tested by my client from his own knowledge. These are his own
creative works. Even IF all copies of these works are removed from him, he
could easily re-create them based on his own knowledge."

    Comments, anyone?

    Copyright For Artists
Authored by: The Mad Hatter r on Saturday, March 26 2011 @ 11:46 PM EDT

This is kind of skirting the edge. I know PJ doesn't like Political posts. This
isn't directly political. We are having an election in Canada. This killed the
current 'copyright reform' bill which was in committee.

The President of Warner Music, Steve Kane, publicly said, "We can't do
anything until after the election," not knowing that I'd already done
    something.

For the Canadians that are here, who use copyright, and who are independent
(i.e. aren't employed by a company to produce copyrighted works), I've set up a
website called Copyright for Artists to discuss what we want, not what the
    companies want.

I haven't finalized the setup yet due to some family issues that have eaten up
my time, but it will be up and running tomorrow.

As I said, this is for independents. I saw what was going on in the Balanced
Copyright Facebook Group, which was as fine an example of astroturfing as you
could want (and boy did they get upset when I started calling them out on that
by naming company affiliations...) So I thought it would be a good idea to try
and get us independents together, and discuss what would work for us, and hand
it to the new government. I have a strong suspicion that it wouldn't match what
    the CRIA/RIAA/MPAA/BSA/WIPO wants.

    Lots of errors?
I'm guessing that someone needs to patch the PJ operating system. Apparently
someone coded a nanosleep() where there should have been a sleep(). If that
doesn't help, check for excessive recent invocation of wine.

On a more serious note, a weekend off (repeated as needed) sounds like long
overdue medicine whose side effects are usually wonderful and do not require
simple liver tests. Hopefully that's the only type of treatment needed to
    encourage a full recovery.
