The Truth about PJ... or Something - Updated 4Xs |

Well, I guess it had to happen. Anonymous has figured out the truth about PJ, I'm afraid. And he's determined to share it, so here you go. Feel free to embellish. Enjoy. [Updates interspersed]
************************
About PJ...The truth.
After doing extensive research into the identity of PJ or Pamela Jones. I have
uncovered the truth and am going to reveal it here.
According to my sources, who wish to remain anonymous, the following is true.
But I'm as ethical as they are, so I'm going to reveal them. Ha ha ha.
PJ is not a real person.
Pamela Jones is the code name for a secret IBM project with the sole purpose of
making IBM look good and discrediting any organization that opposes IBM's goals.
If you don't believe me ask FFIB on the Yahoo! financial board. He figured this
out many years ago, but he cannot come out and directly tell you since he signed
an NDA with IBM. FIBB wants to tell the truth and has been trying since he first
discovered the truth. He just fears the consequences, as he should, that the
lawyers will bring upon him if they find out he broke the NDA.
Project PJ is composed of 30 individuals. As with anything IBM, it is composed
of the same makeup as the rest of the corporation. 1/3 from R&D, 1/3 from
Marketing and 1/3 from the legal department. (1/3 lawyers and people wonder why
the phrase "Don't Mess with IBM." is common knowledge in the IT
industry. There are the few individuals that either forget this mantra or think
they can get away with it and challenge IBM. This leads to their quick burial in
paper and soon to follow financial demise. or as Homer Simpson is so fond of
saying, "Doh!")
The individuals that make up the group are IBM employees who think they are
undergoing a training course. With the promise of a promotion if they complete
the assignment and pass the tests. They are flown to a facility owned by IBM.
Where upon arrival the members of the different
groups are segregated and placed in separate buildings. The doors are
locked. The three groups must communicate via IBM patented WebCube(tm)
technology. Developed by Dr. FoxyMath. Dr. FoxyMath is quoted as saying,
"Well I thought it would be something fun to do. So I sat down one
evening rough sketched some GUI templates, created a CVCMS project
account, entered some specs, e-mailed some friends and as they say in
archeology, 'The rest is history.' "
The assignment for the lawyer group (LG) is to come up with a realistic scenario
that the marketing group(MG) can use to test the Research & Development
Group (RDG). Goal of LG as always is to figure out ways to make IBM more
profitable. So far they have come up with the following scenario:
1) IBM is under attack from a vicious Monopolistic Super Computing Organization,
2) The various governments are ignoring the monopolistic abuse of MSco,
3) MSco is funding another group the Simple Computer Operation to act as the
scape goat and fall guy for MSco. SCO is a disposable small fry in the computing
industry.
The members of the LG are very happy with their large salaries, but the work
load lately has been keeping them from the things that they really enjoy in
life. Like being able to read the Tivo manual so they can record all the
episodes of Perry Mason. The best lawyer comedy ever. There is a pool of over 2
billion (US) dollars to the first person in the LG group to record all of the
episodes and burn them to DVD.
Through the PJ project they discovered the one
thing that keeps them from their goal is patent applications. Filing Software
Patent applications tends to be tedious and basically boring grunge work that
they have to do each day. They have the legal jargon down pat. It is just
becoming more and more difficult to take a very simple idea that has been in the
IT industry for years and write it up so that it sounds 'innovative and unique',
so the USPO examiners approve them without much fuss, yet obsfuscate it so that
no one else on the planet can actually build the thing or realize it has been
done to death already. Filing these applications costs IBM immeasurable amounts
each year. Elimination of this one item is a win-win for LG and IBM.
The other thing that really annoys the LG is that while the MG gets to go to
benefit dinners, cocktail parties, make speeches in front of large crowds about
the latest innovations from IBM, and rub elbows with the big boys in government, they
are stuck in austere rooms making arguments about stuff that could really make
everyone's life better and following procedures. But lately the procedure part
takes up a lot of their time. In the past there were less procedural hoops to
jump through. You showed up. Gave your arguments. Then hit the strip for some
fun. But because of a few bad lawyers like Belated, Stall & Fraudulent all
these rules got made so that BS&F couldn't pull their dirty tricks. So they
miss out on all the parties. The LG has added the BS&F tricks to the
scenario to see if the RDG can figure out a way to make the system work more
efficiently, fairly and quickly. This will hopefully allow the LG to reduce the
amount of court time so they can get back to the office and get those missing
episodes.
Belated's job is to delay releasing any facts, discovery, or evidence that might
sink the court case.
Stall's job is to drag the case out as long as possible. This allows for maximum
stock pump-and-dump, FUD dispersal and that the eventual day of reckoning will
come as far into the future as possible.
Fraudulent's job is to create half-truths, borderline lies and conflicting
evidence. Not actual falsehoods. That would lead to sanctions and no possibility
of winning the case.
The perfect legal team for Simple Computer Operations (eXterminated) (SCOX) -
population 243 and falling (due to underwhelming customer demand for
products and services.)
The LG has been fairly successful in their goals in this project.
The assignment for the MG is to create a 'real world' scenario so that the RDG
can find the flaws and fixes. The way this has been accomplished, so far, is totally through WebCube(tm). A pseudo
website/blog was created (Groklaw), hosted on IBM equipment at the
Ibiblio facility. All interaction between MG and RDG is through this
real time web interface.
As with all MG-type personalties, they think that their ideas are the best, so
they quickly splinter into smaller groups. As ideas get debunked or better ones
evolve these groups also change members. So the MG is always in flux.
MG's job is to develop the scenario so that all aspects are covered. As problems
are solved and new ones arise MG works the new wrinkles into the simulation.
This way the project can quickly adapt.
In the early stages of the project MG used an advanced heuristic program,
evolved from the original AI simulation 'Lisa' to make plausible sounding
'public statements' from MSco and SCO to support MSco/SCO's position against
IBM. Because the statements generated were so blatantly incorrect, MG quickly
nicknamed it Dumb Machine or DM. MG affectionately call DM DARYL, continuing in
the AI/Lisa tradition. (Note: Because of the isolation of the PJ Project a few
of the members of MG have been craving fast food. While others would like to see
the latest DVD rentals. As a covert message to the LG MG combined the two and
gave that as the last name for the DM AI sim. Whenever DARYL is mentioned or
quoted the LG knows that the MG would like some fast food and a movie for the
night.)
There is a sub group (three) which call themselves the Masters Of Gunk or MOG as
they prefer to be called. Did an excellent job of covering up the leak of
information about what PJ really is. They were able to download random pictures
from the internet and create this fictitious individual that would like to
'remain private'. Great piece of work MOG. Totally believable.
The Dito sub group looks like it needs to be rethought. As with any
organization some ideas that are bounced off the wall are just way too stupid to
go anywhere. This is where the Dito group comes in. The purpose of the Dito is
so that any individual that has a poorly constructed idea can present that idea.
So far the ideas have been parroting of the various pseudo organization's goals
and agenda, with totally unrealistic and unbelievable facts and figures. From
some of the posts that I have read, I'm beginning to think this is where the
burned-out members of MG post so they can get fired. Isn't it obvious since Dito
frequently posts that they are affiliated with the Yankme group? IBM has always
supported its employees. So it is unlikely that this will happen. In any other
organization the drivel posted as Dito would have gotten them fired.
The RDG group has the toughest job. Their purpose, of course, is to find the
flaws and find the solutions to the various problems presented. The RDG group is
what you would call the 'voice' of PJ. Anything written on Groklaw by PJ is
written by the RDG group. [Update: Groklaw's Scott Lazar adds this: Of course, PJ's responses were created using IBM's Artificial Intelligence
Xperience (AIX) product. I guess it comes as no surprise that the Small
Cranial Object Group (SCO Group, formerly Skulldera) is SURE some of their
precious IP is being used SOMEWHERE!] For some reason the MG seems to think that repeating
the same old arguments will change RDG's mind. RDG has done an excellent job in
quickly finding flaws in the arguments. They frequently present facts, figures
and supporting documentation that prove without a shadow of a doubt that the
concepts and ideas presented by MG are flawed or trivial problems at best. RDG
frequently posts that the supporting facts that MG presents to support their
theories are bogus or Frequently Utter Drivel(FUD). One of my favorite quotes
from the RDG is 'many eyes make all flaws transparent.'
The RDG being composed of very bright individuals has figured out a way to make
their work load lighter. They found a flaw in the Ibiblio system and managed to
gateway the PJ Project interface onto the World Wide Web. This allowed people
from around the world to work on the problems presented by LG & MG, quickly
killing any FUD. This allowed RDG plenty of time to get a tan on the beach and
drink lots of free beer. They rarely share their beer, which is why they are
so fond of saying, "free as in freedom, not as in beer." I guess they
like their beer more than they like the beach. This could also be an insult
towards the LG, rubbing it in the LG's faces the fact that they are free to roam
around the beach, instead of being cooped up in some court room. This might
explain the LG's attitude that programmers don't innovate. Programmers are just
code monkeys. Innovation is the role of management.
RDG did have some scrambling to do to come up with a valid reason why PJ
was essentially off the air for a month. Their excuse was not too far
from the truth. Bad clam dip during one of the parties that the lawyers
were not invited to caused the whole group to need hospitalization for
severe food poisoning.
This also proved to the other groups that the RDG is not a bunch of
easily replaceable code monkeys. There function is vital to the smooth
operation of IBM.
What has become known as 'Red Dress' day actually came from a typing
error. The project groups have discussed, and look forwards to the end
of the project. They also look forward to a second project. PJv2 maybe?
PJv3? Well 'Red Dress' originally was Re-dress, meaning to reevaluate
the goals and start a new. Due to a sticky key, caused by the free beer,
an extra D got inserted. The groups liked it, so it stuck.
No one has known what PJ truly was or how Evil it is. Until now. Thanks to my
sources I am able to bring you the truth. Pamela Jones doesn't *work* for IBM.
She IS IBM. I think now you can see how truly insidious IBM really is. This lie
has gone on long enough. It is time to end the charade.
Now you Know.

Actually PJ is a real person, or a lady at least, because many of
her posts are
imbued with a true sense of feminine emotion - over open source
software (which
is good, but a little overboard).
I agree
completely. If PJ is a group of people, then they need a considerable
raise. Keeping the tone and tenor to the same feminine quality in every post is
outstanding!! PJ, keep up the good work and see you in the funny papers!! [ Reply to This | # ]

Something I always wanted to ask but never did.
I've been visiting your blog since before it was hosted on Ibiblio. Back in the
beginning, I was kinda interested in knowing who you were so I ended up looking
at a bio page I believe was yours from where you worked, and in that bio page
was a nice looking woman in her 40's wearing a red dress with brunette/brown
hair. It was so long ago and at that time, no one was trying to figure out who
you were so my examination of the page was cursory at best, and more like a
glance than anything.
What I want to know was did I actually see your bio page? Was that you in the
picture? If it was, I'm kinda tickled because I'd be one of the few Groklaw
regulars who actually can put a face to the writing (sort of, I barely remember
the picture).
And about the story, funny. Did you ever think that your name would become
bigger than you? That now people are creating mythos around the name PJ?
Welcome to being famous.[ Reply to This | # ]

It was obvious from the start and you can tell that SCO wasn't fooled for a

Now the truth is out there the only thing I don't understand is why, if SCO knew
that PJ was a bunch of IBM lawyers, they didn't subpoena a bunch of IBM lawyers
instead of searching high and low for an individual who doesn't exist?

Don't forget that in the 23rd Century, AI will be so advanced that a
starship-grade computer will be capable of interaction with the user based on
personality templates, including female ones. (Who knows--IBM may have an early
prototype based on Deep Blue technology already.)
(Not yet up to looking up which "Star Trek":TOS episode that was in,
though I remember it was the first one where the Enterprise went back in time to
the 20th Century.)

PJ,
Sorry, I can't buy this or embelish this. If you were a secret IBM group,
why would you give a tinkers dam about Linux per-se, Novell and the MS patent
trade, or any other off track legal issues having nothing to do with IBM or
SCO?
Instead you would be blowing the IBM horn about how well their Linux policy
gives their customers flexibilty and how well their use of multiple virtual
images of Linux on their big iron servers provides scalablity and reliability.
You would only give a mere glancing mention of Autozone, which by the way, if I
remember properly does NOT use IBM equipment.
I understand your desire to publish this farce, since SCO is clueless, but as
serious speculation as to your true identity, it fails in too many ways to
list.
Respectfully,
Been watching this for a while.[ Reply to This | # ]

Unfortunately, accusing the USA of plots to assassinate central and south

She has been sent to the past by her creators at IBM to save the open source
world from domination by the storm troopers of the MS empire. She has taken on
the persona of a blogger (PJ) defending the rights of the Open Source Software
Movement, but in truth she is the "Litigator." Bwahahaha.... I'm
sorry, I can't help it, this is the most preposterous thing I've ever heard. Is
this SCO case being scripted by monkeys from Hollywood or something? The same
applies to Machiavellian schemes as it applies to programming: Keep It Simple
Stupid (KISS). There's almost no way in today's attention-crazed and
sensationalistic society that a scheme like a PJ "group" would remain
a hidden secret. But given the collective intelligence and critical thinking
skills displayed by SCO & Co. so far, I wouldn't put it past them to believe
it as gospel... Thanks for the laugh, at least it's been entertaining.[ Reply to This | # ]

Hello,
New to the group, just a bit curious about one small detail that seems to get
missed. Doesn't the law protect a group from patent infringement, the the patent
holder does not act quickly once they know they have been infringed?
Microsoft announces Linux infringes on X patents owned by Microsoft, then
doesn't go after Linux, doesn't this mean they have forfeited their claims?
P.S. Hey PJ! Been following Grok for a while. Love your Blog!

Obviously, PJ is ALSO the Bavarian Illuminati. This neatly explains what became
of Herr Blepp's evidence-stuffed briefcase!

Well, a while back 'we' were talking about some company or other and letting
people run the OS they actually want to run on the computer they wanted to buy
before they bought it.
At that time I promised to take it upon myself to run
an experiment here with the 'big 2'.
I managed to complete that test today.
Herewith, the results.
First, earlier this week I wandered in to an Office
Max store and started looking at desktop and laptop computers. Nobody came to
bother me, so I wandered over to the helpdesk (or computer sales desk, or
whatever it was). Nobody there, so I started to wander away. Someone came up
to me then and asked if they could help me, and I asked if there was any way I
could test out a different OS on a computer before I bought it.
He said that,
no, any computer on the floor could not be used in that way. But, he did say
that since they have a 7 (or maybe it was 14) day satisfaction guaranteed
policy, I could take the machine home, try it, and bring it back. (Indeed, they
had signs up all over the place touting that return policy).
That seemed a
reasonable thing to me.
So, today I was in Staples to perform the same
experiment (and to look at something else I wanted to buy, in comparison to
Office Max).
Wandered around the desktops.
Wandered around the
laptops.
Wandered over to the service desk and stood there while the guy on
'register 1' called for a manger to help him with something. I watched the
manger dude wander over and talk to the register 1 dude. After manager dude was
done, he didn't come over to talk to me (still standing in front of a vacant
'customer service' desk). So:
I wandered over to the computers again, grabbed
a flyer, wandered back to the printers and wrote some stuff down, then wandered
over to what I wanted to check price on. (SOME of this wandering may have
happened before the customer service desk event, sorry but its already hazy in
my mind)
On the way to the check price, one of the employees passed me and
smiled, so it wasn't an entirely negative experience, but I came away
with the following conviction:
Staples does not want my
business
So, although I had $30 to $40 in my pocket I could have
spent, I didn't and instead am going back to Office Max.
Not only that, but I
have a friend looking for a laptop with XP (NOT VISTA), and I'm going to point
them away from Staples also.
Oh - on the 'can you load a different OS'
question - there were no obvious signs about 'satisfaction guaranteed'
hanging around either.
Some time soon I'll try that experiment again at a
different Staples - we'll see if its endemic or not - and I'll follow up here
(since I'm hoping to get by tomorrow).

30? Um, how many people help out here? This is just part of the 'open thing'
SCO doesn't understand. If it hadn't been PJ, it probably would have been
someone else doing this. Maybe not as well, or as passionately, but someone.
In some respects 'PJ' is a distributed program now. Groklaw is the bit torrent
tracker. So sorry SCO. [ Reply to This | # ]

recently discovered; found stapled to the back of a famous Christmas letter
Dear Editor,
I am a busy technology executive and my friends say there is no Pamela Jones.
People say 'If you see it in Groklaw it's so.' so please tell me the truth; is
there a PJ?
Editor: Your friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a
skeptical age. They do not believe anything they see. They think that nothing
can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, whether
they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a
mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world
about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of
truth and knowledge.
Yes, there is a Pamela Jones. She exists as certainly as dedication and devotion
to truth exist. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no PJ.[ Reply to This | # ]

A mate of mine over in Australia - he works at Taronga
Park Zoo - told me
recently he was getting worried about
the monkey cages, since they had big
piles of stuff
in them and had had them since ... about 2003.
He
was also complaining about the way the Internet usage
of the Zoo had gone up
since then....
Now he's complaining that the ape cages also have their
piles of stuff, and they appear to be connected to
the piles of
stuff in the monkey cages.
Now he says he's got it figured out.
The monkeys
produce commentary, and the apes edit it. He also thinks
they're
underpaid.
He says an extra helping of peanuts per day will satisfy
the
conglomerate of monkeys and apes calling themselves PJ,
but only if they also
an extra helping of fruit.
Blasted orang-utan! He thinks he should be
in charge
again. (You should see his sign-language about the
chimpanzees!!!
It's not printable!)

PJ isn't IBM.
PJ actually stands for Peanut-Jam...Its an opensource project. :)
Its a special project to satisfy the peanut butter and jam sandwich lovers out
there. (Its well-known among Linux circles that most opensource hackers and
developers are peanut butter and jam addicts).
It is currently in alpha stage, so it isn't feature complete just yet. Its under
GPL v2. (it'll be switching to GPL v3).
PJ is also referred under the guise of Pearl Jam. (The band's namesake used as a
facade for confusion...But Linux folks know better!)
The PJ project is type classified: WMC.
=> Weapons of Mass Confusion.

Pamela Jones [PJ] Finally Unveiled
Do not believe anything
written in the above article!!
It is a ruse, a red herring, written by
PJ herself!
Just to obfuscate any of the multiple worldwide searches
organized by third parties (SCO, MS, etc.),
she has created an image of
herself that has nothing to do with reality!
Actually she is quite good
at it (she should be, considering her past experiences and background see
2e).
Finally after more than three years of extremely dangerous (I was
wounded 4 times, nearly died twice and
lost 2 organs due to a peritonsillar
abscess) and time consuming hard work I found the real person which calls
herself Pamela Jones.
It's not her real name, of course (see bio), but she
definitely is a real person, a woman by the way.
A couple of times I was
really on the brink of catching her in medias res, but due to her elusiveness
she could escape every time, much to my embarrassment.
But let us
recapitulate a bit:
1.What do we believe to know about
her?
a) she is a woman
True
b) of American
extraction
Wrong!
She comes from Spain, Europe or a Latin American
Country,
and her name is definitely not Pamela Jones (see
bio).
c) just middle-aged and average in apearance (we are
led to believe!!)
Wrong!
Actually she is a thin, rather young
looking woman in her middle or late thirties, with a figure envied by many
others of her gender
Long brown-black hair
If you see her, no chance
that you'll ever forget her.
d) she owns a red dress, which she
likes very much.
Wrong!
She never owned a red dress, it's just a ruse.
But she owns a red trenchcoat, she really loves.
And always wears a
!!fedora!! with it. This should have been the first clue I followed, but
I missed it completely at the beginning of the chase.
This also explains her
nicknames like: "The Lady in Red" or "Red Lady 1".
e) nobody is able
to find her, post pictures, tell us where she lives, etc...
(not even the
court could deliver a letter!!!)
True!! (see 2e)
All in all we see
a mixture of half lies, half truths, which makes it very difficult to
pinpoint her location at any given time.
This is exactly what she
wants!!!
2. My findings:
a) Most of her crimes involve
spectacular and often impossible cases of theft.
Making her probably the
best thieve on earth.
b) Her fedora is often ... leaving her
face in shadow and obscuring her eyes.
Good move, if she does not want to
be recognized when not wearing it.
c) She also ...[has]... a flair for
elegance, often wearing jewelry.
Contrary to what she wants us to
believe.
d) She often describes her schemes and the ... attempts to
stop them as being a game .... regularly gloating that she is impossible to
capture or that her plans are infallible and acting as though any efforts made
against her are extremely trivial.
e) ... is a former spy for the
Intelligence Service of [censored] and that she is an agent, double
agent, triple agent, and quadruple agent for so many countries that even she has
forgotten which one she is working for ...
This explains her elusiveness,
her ability to counteract enemy moves, of finding a hole in every enemy position
and lots of things associated to this kind of work, which till now were a source
of surprise and admiration for us.
f) .... despite her thieving ways,
she may still have some goodness left in her ... [she] maintain[s] a reputation
as a "thief with a conscience" ....and .... agents who used to work closely with
her .... have mixed feelings about imprisoning her.
So groklaw
is possibly her redeeming project before she can retire
definitely.
This leaves me in a very difficult position, because
with time I came to sympathyse with 2f and I always thought that anyone should
be given a second chance. This "second chance" being groklaw restores any honor,
worth and reputation she might have lost.
I have put all my
complete findings on a website where they are very unlikely to be erased or
censored, at least in the next 50 years.

Nice fabrication. Two notes, though.
FUD should be "Frequently Uttered Drivel", not
"...Utter...".
Second, you are all wrong. PJ has multiple personalities, and in fact has
posted all of the articles and comments when the various personalities come out.
Some are strong and frequent personalities, like MathFox. Some are very
tenuous, like the 47 different personalities that use the name Anonymous. But
it all comes from one person. That is why she/they can be so consistent, and so
hard to find. She can be any one of those personalities when you meet her, so
she can blend into the background all the better. ;-})

Folks, anybody familiar with materials produced by IBM would know that this was
a hoax. If PJ were an IBM project, Groklaw would contain numerous pages
consisting of nothing but the words "THIS PAGE INTENTIONALLY LEFT
BLANK".

My congratulations to Anonymous on a brilliant piece of analysis, entertainingly
presented. I presume that Anonymous is auditioning for the job of writing SCO's
court submissions. The humour of the current writers of SCO's submissions is so
stiff and laboured that hardly anyone has yet realized that right from the
beginning it was all intended to be a Joke! Joke! They're treating it as if it
were for real, and the whole thing has fallen horribly flat. Time for some new
script writers.[ Reply to This | # ]
