SCO Names Gupta of Declaration Fame as VP
Monday, July 26 2004 @ 10:48 AM EDT

Wolf Bauer is retiring, he says, and in comes Mr. Sandeep Gupta. Here is SCO's press release.

****************************************

SCO Names Sandy Gupta as Vice President of Engineering Monday July 26, 8:01 am ET LINDON, Utah, July 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The SCO Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: SCOX - News), owner of the UNIX® UnixWare operating system and a leading provider of UNIX-based solutions, today announced the appointment of Sandeep (Sandy) Gupta to the position of vice president of engineering after the retirement of former vice president, Wolfgang Bauer.

"Sandy's history with the Unix System V operating system technology is exactly what will drive our UNIX products further in the marketplace and enhance SCO's engineering team. With new upgrades on UNIX products and a growing need for innovative work, Sandy is a qualified leader to replace the experienced Wolf Bauer as vice president over engineering," said Darl McBride, President and CEO of The SCO Group, Inc.

Gupta joined SCO in 1996 to work in the ISV engineering group. He worked with strategic ISV partners such as Progress, Oracle, Computer Associates, etc., on their ports to SCO UNIX platforms. Subsequently he moved to SCO UK Escalations group and led the 24x7 Enterprise Escalations engineering effort. He also led the SCOx eCommerce and Web Services initiatives. Over the last few years Gupta conducted the UnixWare development effort in SCO's Murray Hill, New Jersey Development Center as senior director of UNIX engineering.

Before joining SCO, Gupta worked for ICL, UK. He contributed great effort to the core kernel team at ICL that did the reference port and device driver development of UNIX System V on the SPARC platform.

As vice president of engineering, Gupta will be responsible for continuing development and enhancement of all SCO's products, including its two operating systems; SCO UnixWare and SCO OpenServer. He will also aggressively expand the Smallfoot product offering -- the new operating system offering from SCO for embedded devices released last month. Gupta will oversee enhancements to the SCO Web Services Substrate, which allows customers to deploy their legacy applications over the Web. Gupta will also oversee the release of an exciting new product, SCOoffice Server 4.1, this month that delivers e-mail and collaboration to SCO UNIX servers.

Michael Davidson, SCO operating system architect, has contributed greatly to SCO's development since 1987 and will now report to Gupta.

Bauer will retire from SCO on July 31, 2004, ending a 45-year career in the computer business. He's worked with AT&T Bell Labs, Bellcore (Telcordia), and Northern Telecom. His employment has involved work for the US Army, US Air Force, US Postal Service and other engineering applications. Bauer has been an integral part of the SCO engineering team for many years. His experience with working on the UnixWare operating system since 1990 has benefited SCO's engineering team and furthered its progression.
