here at Groklaw has been virtuosic and untiring. Best of all, it has summoned
forth an inspiring ethos of collaborative legal analysis within the community of
those who believe in keeping software free, open, and ethically sound. I stand
and applaud loudly for your magic: past, present, and yet to come. Bravo!

PJ,
We who regularly visit Groklaw already knew that you run the best legal
news and commentary site on the web, but it's great to see you get the
"official" recognition you so richly deserve. Congratulations!
Someday we
won't have SCO to kick around any more -- IBM, Red Hat, and other Open Source
users and developers will have kicked them out of court (and very likely out of
the marketplace). I look forward to that day and Groklaw's coverage of other
topics of interest. Thanks for all you do, PJ!

PJ,
You are the Linus Torvals of "Open Journalism". I mean, Linus has
the ability to take the best of every programmer, group that, and make it work
in a Open Source Software called linux. You, you make the same thing on Growlaw
but with the ideas of everyone who put comments or sends you email.
For my part, what has thrilled me the most, is the open letter that we sent to
Darl McBride. Everyone put it's two cents in it and the outcome was a great
work. Your were the driving force and it was fun and thrilling to work on it.
Even if it was only one or two cents!
So, keep up the good work, as always!

Well done PJ, and all contributors!
And Thank You, PJ. You have given the World a focus. Many people have been
angered by SCOX. GrokLaw has given them somewhere to direct their energies in a
constructive fashion. Without GrokLaw, many of us would not know what we could
do to help. Some may even have got themselves into trouble by taking matters
into their own hands, without understanding the consequences.
GrokLaw is a real inspiration. Many people, each with their own talents, have
become an incredibly powerful research group. Ideas and theories are bounced
around, facts and processes are explained, all in considered and considerate
fashion. I know it has given me an insight into the worlds of Corporate America,
Law (in the US AND overseas), journalism (or lack, thereof ;-) ), Linux, Unix,
and cooperation.
Again, Thank You PJ, and everyone else. I look forward to following the rest of
GrokLaw's coverage of SCOX, and whatever happens after that.
So, as a teetotaller, I raise my mug of tea to you all, wish you all a Merry
Christmas, and fully anticipate a Happy New Year (especially 23rd January) !

With the holiday season upon us, it's easy to lose track of the
calendar...
- Today, December 19 is a Friday. Things with SCO seem to
happen on Fridays, especially late on Fridays. With the time zone difference,
maybe to be after the markets close.
- IBM's Motion to Compel Discovery was
entered on Friday, December 12, with a 30 day deadline. Thirty days from
December 12 would be January 11th, a Sunday, so SCO is ordered to respond to the
discovery request with specificity by Monday January 12th, I
presume.
- On Jan 23, the magistrate will hear more motions, but only (?)
if SCO complies with the Jan 12 order.
If SCO responds to IBM's
satisfaction by Jan 12th, then the hearing on Jan 23 will address SCO's requests
for discovery from IBM. My interpretation of the Dec 12th Order is that the
magistrate won't go on to discovery of IBM materials until SCO complies with the
Jan 12th deadline.
An interesting thread for pure WAG speculation is: Assume
SCO provides IBM with alleged chapter and verse, in SCO-code and Linux-code (or
the IP behind those implementations), ... what happens next? --- 73

Congratulations, PJ, on creating Groklaw, then maintaining standards that
attracted so much high quality help. You have put enough of yourself into your
writing to make it personal, and enough cold facts to make it reliable to a
whole community. Your directed, unselfish efforts attracted the people necessary
for your creation to grow.

OFF TOPIC:
I just noted a comment about a deceased site regarding a "lay"
analysis on Darl's mental condition.
That site would be mine... and it's out of reach for the next 2-10 days because
SBC managed to somehow bungle my new DSL line order.
I am just waiting for my static IP's (Monday 12/22), then I program DNS, then I
wait for DNS to update network-wide, THEN my site will be visible again.
(Phew!)
Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS PJ!!!! I'll throw down a cognac for you tonite...

PJ says "... and we've done something brand new."
Yes, and I am sure we are all witnessing one of epoch-making
events on Internet history, here.
Bravo! PJ from Japan.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but this award was given from a Linux
sympatiser, to a Linux sympatiser. Sure it's nice, and I love this site, but it
just doesn't have a lot of weight.
Imagine how you would feel if Hollywood gives the RIAA an award for their
'battle' against online copyright theft. It would be pretty much a no-brainer
to brush it away on account of the incestuous relationship the two industries
have.
Now reverse this sentiment. Look at it from the other side. It's fun to read
things that support your view, but some skepticism is always in order. I read
the award website, and it seems to be just the editor handing out awards on
personal preference. If you count that as a win, you're going to be stuck in
the underground, being praised, and praising others for feats that don't really
matter in the real world.
Conclusion: If you want to convince the main stream that open source and the GPL
licence is ok, you'll have to appeal to them. Not to those that already
converted.[ Reply to This | # ]

Three cheers for PJ and the Penguinistas(both those in the backroom and the
frontroom).
Since you added the handglass to the heading title I keep having flashbacks to
Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars. "The games afoot
Watson"
Can hardly wait for D-Day on Monday.

Congratulations PJ, you deserve a great deal of credit for what you have started
here. And thank you to all of the people who have contributed their research and
knowledge to keep us informed and help us seperate facts from FUD.[ Reply to This | # ]

Well deserved vindication for your herculean effort and peerless grace.
My congratulations and sincerest gratitude to all Grokkers.
Another shining example the open source process.
Watching you all outwit and outclass the 'proprietary' journalists in spite of
their lamest efforts has been a real honor. Thanks for your tolerating me here.
Happy holidays
Thanks again,[ Reply to This | # ]
